Ascension questioned:

I have been diagnosed with HSV-1 and HSV-2. I had been in what I believed was a monogamous relationship for nearly 5 years. My gynecologist basically said that he must have been with someone else if I haven’t. Plotted Parenthood indicated that it is sexually contracted but not permanently. The rep there also stressed that there is no way to say for certain that he gave it to me. She also mentioned that the virus could be in someone’s system for years and not show any symptoms, which allows for the possibility that I contracted it from a previous partner. But he could have also had it, not known and unknowingly spread it to me. It is not unusual for a man to have no clue he has passed it on because he did not know he had it.

Is it possible that I received it from someone from a previous relationship years ago? I am permanently monogamous in my relationships. Although I have not been wise about protecting myself. The symptoms started to present themselves a modest over a year ago (although I was just tested a month and a half ago) and I had been with him nearly 5 years. I did not identify the symptoms with and STD and they would come and go. What are the chances that I did not get it from him? He got tested and only has HSV-2.

The testing also showed that I had trich but he supposedly had a negative result for trich. How can that be and I have not had sex with anyone else? I know there is a chance that you can get trich outside of sex but it is not likely. I does not make significance to me.

One more business, my diagnosis possibly could have been identified earlier. I went to the gynecologist a year or so previous to that for testing and herpes did not show – only because he did not test for it. Why wouldn’t a doctor routinely include testing for ALL STDs when someone requests such testing. I did not go in there and say I want to be tested for STD but do not include herpes testing. I felt that was very negligent on his part.
